Which Hotel Activities are available for guests at Jambo Mutara Camp?

Game Drives

Mutara is teeming with wildlife, and is a great place to experience the excitement of an African safari. Our guides, who will accompany you on morning and evening game drives, have been professionally trained in tracking, spotting and species identification. They have a wealth of knowledge about the local wildlife that they are enthusiastic to share with guests.

Bush walks

For a more intimate experience with the wilderness, try one of our bush walks. The trails can be tailored to your desire and fitness level, and you will be accompanied by an armed ranger and experienced safari guide. This is a thrilling way to get closer to nature; viewing wildlife on foot is an altogether different experience from being in a vehicle.

Bush Dining

Dining in the wilderness is an unforgettable way to enjoy a meal, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the wild. We can treat our guests to breakfast in the bush, where our catering team will set up a luxury outdoor breakfast, cooked on site, for you to enjoy in the midst of Mutara’s awakening wildlife. A popular site for our bush breakfasts is by the dam, where it can be enjoyed by the cool waters edge. We can also organize a bush barbecue, with locally sourced, mouth-watering steaks or ribs, cooked to perfection while you take in the surroundings.

Sundowners

As the orange sun sets over the African wilderness, there is no better way to enjoy it than with a cold drink. While you can watch the sun set from the comfort of the bar in camp, it is very special experiencing it from hilltop in the bush. A great way to round off a game drive, our safari guides will take you to an epic viewpoint in the conservancy, equipped with chairs and drinks of your choosing.

Night Drives

Night game drives are a unique opportunity to experience nocturnal wildlife. Not many conservancies allow this, and many safari-goers miss the chance to see some of Africa’s most unusual creatures. With the help of our experienced guides and a powerful spotlight, our guests might see any number of ‘after-dark’ animals; aardvark, porcupine, honey badger, white tailed mongoose and the bush baby can all be seen in Mutara.

Bird Safari

For keen ornithologists, our experienced bird guide can offer an incredible bird-watching experience. The neighbouring Ol Pejeta Conservancy has over 300 species of birds, including some impressive birds of prey, and many of those species can be found here on Mutara too.

Fun at the Dam

Not far from camp are the glistening waters of the Mutara dam. A small rowing boat is available for guests to explore the dam, and get a different view of the wildlife that come here to drink. The dam is also stocked with tilapia for keen anglers.

Ol Pejeta

Ol Pejeta, our neighbouring wildlife conservancy, is home to three of the world’s last remaining seven northern white rhinos, who were translocated here from a zoo in the Czech Republic. The endangered species enclosure here provides visitors with a chance to get close to these rare animals, and hear their story. Ol Pejeta is also the only place in Kenya to see chimpanzees. The Sweet-waters Chimpanzee Sanctuary was established to receive and provide lifelong refuge to orphaned and abused chimpanzees from West and Central Africa. The sanctuary is open daily for visitors to watch these remarkable creatures enjoying their spacious enclosure, and read about the individuals.

Mount Kenya

Mt. Kenya sits at an elevation of 5,199 metres, and is the second highest mountain in Africa. The snowy peaks of this imposing landmark can be seen from Camp, seemingly another world away from the hot, dry bushland of Mutara. For guests who are confident hikers, climbs to the summit can be organized from reception. They can range from three to five day trips.

Mountain Biking

The Laikpia region is perfect for mountain biking, with an endless web of trails through farmland, wild bush and traditional villages. Trails of varying distances, terrain and difficulty, as well as mountain bike hire can be arranged from reception.

Helicopter Safaris Jambo Mutara

There are few better ways to appreciate the majestic Africa wilderness than from the comfort of a helicopter. At the Mutara Camp we arrange bespoke flight experiences for viewing game, accessing remote park locations, sundowners and visits to the peaks of Mt. Kenya.
